Station and the Telegraph Company's Offices, at a cost of some £850.

The local Naval Authorities however consider

it advisable that the Telegraph Company should lay and maintain their own connections; and they further propose that arrangemente should be made with the China and Japan Telephone and Electric Company with regard to telephonic communication. I enclose copies of correspondence addressed to me by Commodore Anstruther on the subject.

This Government, as stated in my telegram, does not at present require any telegraphic or telephonic communication for its own purposes.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram of the 8th. May, which reads as follows:-

Your telegram of 19th. April; await Admiralty letter D 5356 addressed to Commodore April 27 before taking action further re telegraph line.
